CentOS VPS Versions

The version numbers for CentOS are divided in to two, such as MAJOR.MINOR.

For example, 5.6, meaning major version 5, minor version 6.

These major and minor versions correspond to the source packages used from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux distribution. So CentOS 5.6 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 update 6.
