Seems like colour gradients are everywhere nowadays since the more widespread acceptance of them in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.

Gone are the days of firing up your favourite image tool, creating a gradient slice and uploading the result to your site in order to get that great background gradient effect.

Upgrading CakePHP

Upgrading or migrating CakePHP can be quite a daunting task to the uninitiated, but in most cases the process is as simple as any other PHP application. How complicated the upgrade/migration is going to be is dependant on whether you are moving up the major or minor version path.

Moving from a minor version is considered an 'upgrade', whereas moving from one major version to the other is considered a 'migration'

VirtueMart 1.1.6

The latest version of the popular free shopping cart software 'VirtueMart' has now released a new version, 1.1.6.

We advise all our UK web hosting customers currently using VirtueMart to upgrade as soon as possible. Although the change log is not currently available, we expect that a number of bug fixes have been completed and from a security perspective the update should prove worthwhile.

If your not already using the Firefox web browser for testing and developing your website's, you should seriously consider it.

The browser sports numerous free plug-ins that make web development much easier and faster. In addition there are numerous personal plug-ins that are worth installing to make life easier (i.e. local weather, world times, etc).

IE8 Developer Tool for Website Design

There is a handy little feature in IE8 that, amongst other things, allows users to change the modes employed when  viewing web pages. It is done by starting up the IE8 'Developer Tool'. You can do this for any currently open browser tab by pressing the F12 button whilst viewing the tab.
